The meaning of the name and the logo
Why this school is called what it is called — and the story the name carries.

The name
A proper name is not explained: it is inhabited. But every well-chosen name holds a reason within it, and knowing that reason helps those who are part of the school tell it well. Umanagea Umanagea is an invented name — it didn't exist before — and that is why it is entirely our own. We didn't find it in a dictionary: we coined it to name exactly what this school is.
Umanagea names a single idea: that human beings and the Earth are not two things,
but one single living process.
The human and the earthly, spoken in a single word.
The name has two readings. Both are true, and the name's richness lies precisely in that they hold together at once: one is immediate, grasped the moment you hear it; the other is deeper, and reveals itself to anyone willing to look inside the word.
THE FIRST READING
Human and Earth
Taken at face value, Umanagea It sounds like the combination of two words: human and Gea —the Earth—. The human and the earthly, fused into a single term that can no longer be separated. That impossibility of separating them, once they are spoken together, is precisely the message.
This interpretation needs no explanation: anyone who hears «Umanagea» recognises the echo of «humana» at the start and senses that the name speaks of both people and the land. The name speaks for itself, without the need for a footnote. And it states, in no uncertain terms, the premise from which the whole school is born: human health and the health of the land are one and the same process, and we can learn to inhabit it.
It is also a name with a warm, feminine quality to its sound — open, fluid, without any sharp edges. This is no coincidence: the school's register is not one of conquest or effort, but of belonging. Umanagea does not sound like a goal; it sounds like home.
THE SECOND READING
Uma + Mana + Gea
Beneath the first reading lies another, deeper one, for those who care to look inside the word. Umanagea can be read as the union of three cores — three ideas which, chained together, sketch out the school's entire worldview:
UMA
The Human
The human being — not as the master of nature, but as one of its forms. The person who learns, who inhabits, who remembers that they belong. The starting point for the whole school: the human being who comes to recognise themselves once more as part of the living world.
MANA
The life force
The energy that animates all living things — the current that runs through and connects every being. «Mana» names what circulates between body and land, between one person and another, between the human and the earthly: the bond, life in relationship. It is the piece that joins the other two.
GEA
The Earth
The Earth as a living being and as a home — Gea, the primordial mother of Greek tradition, the whole of which we form a part —. Not the planet as an object, but the Earth as a home: the place one belongs to, and returns to.
Read in order, the three spell out a single sentence: the human (uma), joined by the life force (mana), to the Earth (gea).The human being reconnected, through the life that flows, with the whole they never ceased to be part of. That sentence is, exactly, the school's manifesto.
The logo
SYMBOLIC REPRESENTATION:
- NATURE: The tree as a universal symbol of Nature, Life and the Ecosystem.
- A HUMAN BEING: The role of humankind and its connection with Nature as a being that «is Nature» and is not separate from it.
- PSI LETTER: The Greek letter Ψ It originates from the Phoenician alphabet, which influenced the development of the Greek alphabet around the 9th century BC. This letter has no meaning in its own right, but its trident-like shape and its appearance in the Greek word for ‘psyche’ (ψυχή) have made it a symbol of the soul, the mind, the study of human behaviour, the exploration of consciousness, the quest for self-knowledge and emotional regulation.
- SYMBOL: Taken together, the Umanagea logo represents «Living Nature» and the union of ‘human + nature’.
