The 7 December 2025 We’d like to share an activity that I find fascinating: the Nature Journal Workshop (Nature Journaling). I think this activity is a perfect blend of science, art and mindfulness.
It was aimed at all age groups, so both children and adults enjoyed it. We began with some warm-up exercises that allowed us to practise drawing whilst having fun. We then learnt other techniques that helped to develop our concentration, curiosity, creativity and critical thinking.
Personally, I have to say that I spent my childhood and teenage years drawing. For reasons to do with «adulthood», I stopped doing it, but I took it up again a few years ago with more enthusiasm and passion than ever. What I like most about these workshops is the sense of freedom they offer. Here, it’s not about drawing well or the end result of a drawing, but about who you were whilst you were drawing it. How you felt, how you were feeling, what inspired you to pick up a pencil and start drawing. As children, we’re very quickly labelled as «you’re so good at drawing» or «drawing isn’t your thing», but the truth is that anyone can draw. It’s a matter of wanting to, learning a few techniques and, above all, enjoying the process without trying to create a «work of art».
The fact that this activity takes place in the great outdoors makes the experience even more enriching. We enjoyed the smell of damp earth, the feel of oak leaves beneath our feet and listening to the robin and the chaffinch whilst we drew. It’s moments like these that enrich our lives. Don’t you think?
An experience I would absolutely recommend to everyone, whether you can draw or not. The workshop fosters a relaxed atmosphere where what matters isn’t the end result but the process itself – the pleasure of stopping to observe nature. I came away with a real sense of having slowed down and thoroughly enjoyed the moment.
